I will try to give as much detail as I can:

I have a Gateway laptop MX8734 with an Intel T2060 Dual Core 1.6 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, 150 GB HDD with 87GB free, running a fresh install of Win 7 Home Prem SP1 (originally came with Vista).

I decided to reformat and reinstall OS. Everything went as planned. I ran Windows updates until there were no more. I installed MS Office 2003, Skype, Auslogics disk defrag, Avast, Teamviewer, Bluecoat K-9, Glary, Dropbox, Adobe Reader X, CCleaner, Process Lasso, Lifecam VX-5000, Canon MP560 printer, Microsoft Picture It and Revo Uninstaller, Firefox, Cute PDF, and latest Java.

The problem occurs when I try to run IE9 or Skype. They both crash. For instance, if I navigate to http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/default.html?AVi=0&id=7753126&N=4294967273+4294962462&D=50&zip=54313&pD=0&pI=0&pT=400&pC=200&pB=0&No=0&Ep=homepage:homepage%20Make&Rp=R&PP=20&sV=List&CD=662+14+966+240+398+9&Q=dd319490-c4e2-4f0f-a5a7-717e2c7530e7 I get a message that a problem occured and needs to shut IE9 down. I have several successful clicks before I get to this page and it crashes. It tries to open the site a couple of times, but to no avail. Skype opens, but crashes before loading completely.

I have to believe they are related. If you can help, I would appreciate it. I have a Macrium backup, so I can always go back.

Try uninstalling Skype and removing any addons Skype may have added to IE9. See if IE9 still crashes.

Browsers crashes are almost always caused by faulty addons.

For what it's worth, I quit using Skype after becoming annoyed with it's poor reliability and large resource consumption (especially when 5.x came out). This article also contributed to my decision: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/networking/how-skype-does-and-doesnt-work/1051

I used Revo to uninstall Skype. Restarted, just for good measure. IE crashes. I uninstalled IE9. IE8 crashes at same site. Any thoughts?

Hmm...must be related to the site then. Have you tried viewing the site with Firefox or Chrome?

Internet Settings > Advanced tab > Reset

I doubt this will help, though, since it's a fresh Windows install.
