Hi All and new here.
A friend of mine got himself a dose of Scarware - he cant remember the name(!). I suggested he ran Hitman Pro and malwarebytes in safe mode with networking. This seems to have gotten rid of it (no pop ups etc) but all of his programs and files and desktop have gone(hidden?)
System restore does not work as a box pops up saying (i think) that system restore cannot solve the problem and to reboot the PC.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
PS I have searched the form but cannot find anything that matches the above description.

Download and run unhide.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe). You might then post in the Am I Infected forum to make sure the system is indeed free of malware

Finally got to use unhide.exe yesterday on his pc and I am pleased to report
that it "does exactly what it says on the can".
Within in 5 minutes it unhid all his desktop, pis and folders.
What a FANTASTIC programme.
Thanks for all your help, and what a great forum.
