I'm using a WIN XP Home Upgrade installed over a factory-installed WIN Me system. When I try to start the computer, I get

Intel [R] Boot Agent Version 3.0.03
...... ......
PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF Exiting Intel ROM
Insert system disk in drive
Press any key to continue

When I insert the WIN XP Upgrade disk(there is no "rescue" disk) and press a key, or if I simply try to boot from the disk, after setup has gone to a certain point, it says it "can't find a previous Windows installation" on the drive, and directs me to use a full version of XP, Me, or 98, or, for oem systems, call the computer manufacturer. I don't think any of these steps will solve my problem.

When I use the WIN Me "resvue" and mnfcter's CD-ROM disk, all I'm allowed to do is reinstall WIN Me, and I will lose all the files on the hard drive when it is formatted. I need ny Favorites (actually, My Wife's Favorites, a ton of them) is all I need from this comouter. Any ideas?
Thanks, in advance -
tom

Hello Tom.
You will have a setting in your BIOS for PXE. It is in the boot order (CD, floppy, hard drive, PXE). It also may be under boot other. It is a feature to allow a workstation to boot from a network. You do not not need it so it is best to disable. That fearure is also available on some NICs (3C905c-TX), that have either a onboard ROM or a ROM socket, but is rarely used.
