Hello,
I have a Dell desktop that I loaned to my daughter. It's running Vista home. Have had the Roadrunner service man there twice and he says there's something wrong with the computer. He hooks up his laptop and it gets on. This pc did work ok. Can't figure out why it won't go online. What are the biggest reasons that it will not connect?

Thanks,
Yip-n-Yap

Do you get any error messages or bubbles popping up from the lower right hand corner?

Anything noted in Event Viewer? Checked device manager for hardware issues?

No I don't. As I say the cable guy from Time Warner checks his Laptop and it connects. So it must be my computer. I call for Tech help and they can't get it online either.

No, I have checked device manager and the ethernet card checks out ok. Says it is working correctly.

Can you go to Start then run and type in cmd.

In the big black box that comes up can you perform a tracert to the following:

tracert 74.125.91.106 >> c:\tracert_74.125.91.106.txt

then navigate to C:\ via My Computer and copy and paste the contents of the following file tracert_74.125.91.106.txt into your next post?

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List IP configuration
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Run the above with the selected options.
