I'm running windows XP professional on a desktop. I recently noticed that my browsing was getting slow and that my AVG anti virus had a yellow "!" indicating it was not functioning 100%. I tried the fix button and received the error message "Could not finish automatic state repair, We weren't able to fix one or more components". When I try to run a scan on AVG it just instantly says "No infection found during this scan" without scanning any files. I have Malewarebytes on my pc and after updating I tried to scan with it but it wouldn't run. Now when I click on the icon I get the error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You might not have the correct permissions to access them." I booted in safe mode but neither anti virus program works in that environment either.

I was working with someone in another forum on this site http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic411638.html/page__gopid__2350246#entry2350246

I have re-booted into safe mode, downloaded and tried all three programs - Malwarebytes, SAS and GMER.
Same exact results as in normal mode - none of the programs will run. Malwarebytes and GMER just close as soon as I hit scan. I can get SAS portable to start but after a few thousand files it closes as well.

I have attached the attach.txt and dds.txt logs. Gmer closes down shortly after I hit scan so I don't have a log.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Please do the following:

Please download aswMBR ( 511KB ) to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run it
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan
  • On completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.
