Hi,

You have probably been helped elsewhere, but if you still need help can you post a new log from HijackThis. The notification system will tell me that you posted.

In case you are not using the latest version of HijackThis (1.99.1), please download the latest version from one of these addresses:

Hi venez68,

your log is incomplete. Please post the complete log. Now I have to work under assumption. Like that you are using Windows 98. This could or could not be the case, so I would like to be sure.

Hi venez68,

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Hi venez68,

You are using LimeWire. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use "Add/Remove Program" to remove it and any reference to LimeWire.
This is another article: http://www.cexx.org/adware.htm

Open "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. Select the following items:
  • Locators Toolbar
and click "Remove" for each of them. If one of the uninstallers wants to download stuff or needs an Internet connection, skip that one and report them to me.

i have it installed but don't really use it anymore.
will it still install malware even if it 's not activated in the startup menu?
u think this could be what's corrupting the spool32 file?

i'm at work now so i'll do the uninstall tonight.

thanx again for all your help.

Ok i uninstalled Limewire and the Locators toolbar with no problems.
Do you need another log file, and should i try to restore spool32 yet?

I'm having problems with this file(spool32.exe).
Computer won't boot up unless the file is deleted, also cannot run printer without it.
Tried numerous virus scans, cleaners and everytime they come up clean.

You can try to restore spool32.exe. The reason that you cannot print is that to print you need spool32.exe. It is the print spooler.

Please post a new log from HijackThis and tell me if you can print again. Thanks.

Thanx again for all your help, very much appreciated.
If i can't get the printer to work i'll go back to the forums to post.
