Hi

My girlfriend has a Lenovo 3000 n200 laptop. She had an 'expert' check it because she was not getting online and the virus protection programs were not working. The tech guy said it was probably a virus, but he couldn't figure it out. After a few reboots I tried going online, but the IE window would only open and close quickly.

She had purchased a Lenovo Rescue and Recovery disc set some time ago, and decided to reinstall the factory settings. AFter loading the startup disc and all 6 file discs, the repair did not work. It stopped at 'processing CM2ZCUS C:/i386/svcpack/KB912919.cat

I then changed the boot setup back to the SATA hard drive. When it started the screen gave a 'NTDLR is missing' message. I have an XP installation disc for a Dell and got into the recovery console. I typed "COPY D:\i386\ntldr C:\" <enter> then "COPY D:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\" Both were copied successfully. Changed the boot setup back to the hard drive. On restart I got the 'hal.dll is missing or corrupt' message. I tried to get back to the recovery console, but now I just get the hal.dll error message.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this. If not, a redirect would really be helpful.

Thanks.

john
