Whoever is responding to this, first of all thank you for your help. I have included the the dds and gmer logs as part of this post.

I will first describe the problem I am having

The browsers seem to be infected since when a hyperlink in google's search is clicked one is always redirected to one of a myriad of shady sites such as this one:

http://sxrzmbdq.opensourcebots.com/click.php?c=d90bf9160b9aeb70da654a0a5f03

One link will get redirected to a different random site each time it is clicked. We use Chrome more often so we stopped using it and started using Internet Explorer, on which we are having the same problems, but not as often. This problem has been present for about 2 months.

As for Microsoft Word's crashing problems these have only been happening only as of this past week. I have attached a screenshot of the error message that appears when it crashes. During the last one of these crashes it was reported to me that the Microsoft Word's window borders began to flash and that some images looking like some kinds of icons were quickly flashing in the lower left part of the screen. However, we were not able to recognize the icons or see what images they held.

The computer's speed seems mostly normal, but for some reason I cannot update virus definitions for Bitdefender. When I try to click the button that would allow me to do so nothing happens, just as if I had not ever clicked the button at all.

A few weeks ago I did immunize the computer with SpybotSD and it seemed to have been rid of the hyperlink redirect issues, but the problem came back afterwards.

Thank you for the help and please let me know if you come to require more information from me.

~CarlosGimel

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

DeFogger:

  • Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Download DDS:

  • Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply
