Hi,

I just got a lap top with Windows Vista on it. Its a Gateway laptop and my problem is that I can get on the internet just fine however I can't open My Computer, My Pictures, or ANYTHING ELSE - it always says Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working - every single time. The ONLY thing I can do on this computer is get on the internet, I absolutely can't open anything else at all. Any ideas?

Did it come with any disks?
If not, I'd try to use recovery partition to restore the computer to factory settings.
That's the best way of dealing with used machines.

Restart computer and at Gateway logo press F11.
If recovery partition is present you should get some on-screen instructions.

It looks like recovery console doesn't exist anymore.

Can you ask your friend if he/she has any disks?
