Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to consider my problem. I have an HP Elitebook Tablet PC running Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

Initially, I had trouble loading certain files (using Firefox) as I got an error message that there were difficulties locating my proxy server. I don't have a proxy server, so I found where that had somehow been marked on my connection tab in Firefox, unchecked proxy server, and was able to successfully load all web pages. Some online research as to the address that the proxy was forwarded to indicated that it was was "trojan-proxy:w32/Kvadr.gen!A." I am sorry, but I didn't document the address.

Recently, I began noticing that I was being redirected from Google search results. I ran an online version of a malware checker and discovered that I had an atmfd32.exe virus which was listed by the malware checker as Gen:Variant.Kazy.30564. I then ran my district's virus software, McAfee, (I am a teacher for a large public school district) and it didn't find anything. I don't think the McAfee is working correctly. I then downloaded and ran AVG (the free version), which found the atmfd32.exe file immediately and removed it. However, that didn't stop the Google-redirect problem.

I was successful in following all of the preparatory steps requested by Bleepingcomputer, with the exception of the GMER scan. I ran the scan two times; each time something shut the computer completely down. The first time it scanned for more than an hour before shutting down the computer; the second time took less time before the system shut down. Each time, I had stepped away from the computer, so I'm not sure if there was an error message before the system shut itself off ... therefore losing the log file.

I sincerely thank you for taking the time considering my issue. I'm certain that the district solution will be to simply re-image my computer. It is currently running Windows XP and the re-image would be with Windows 7 ... and I'm not quite ready to make that change.

Tina

Thank you.
