My laptop compaq - xp was running a chdsk, scanned repaired - started fine. Turned it off came back about 2 hours later -turned it on - froze - finally able to turn off. Turned on again - message restart normal mode etc.. no go. F10 - diagnostics hard drive 1-4 failed.F11 (recovery) above message returned.

Do'nt have backup cd . Did earlier hard drive check because soooo slow result SMART failed. What does this mean? Is there anything that can be done to recover from this?

I am using my desk pc to send these questions.
