I am having issues with an installation box that keeps showing saying that MyDVD.msi installation source cannot be found. Since I started having this issue, my computer has developed some serious internet connectivity issues including redirecting pages, or address not found pages. A new issue is that when it does load a page it will load it as a text list instead of the normal formatting of the page.
I have run Avast antivirus and nothing came up, I've run Spybot S&D a few times and seems the same 4 pieces of spyware come up.
I've run SuperAntiSpyware and posted a log, I've also run MalwareBytes and posted a log as well as GMER and posted a log there too. I recently ran the Defogger program and so the cd emulation is now disabled. Should I rescan the computer again using GMER? Here is the link to the logs from before.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic410117.html/page__pid__2342468#entry2342468

I downloaded DDS, but when it saves it is saving as an AutoCAD script instead of the screensaver the image says it should save as. The only options when I choose "Save" is AutoCAD script or All Files. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Thank you so much for your help

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.
If you are unable to create a log because your computer cannot start up successfully please provide detailed information about the Windows version you are using: What we in particular need to know is version, edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system. [/b]
If you are unsure about any of these caracteristics, just let us know and we'll help you figuring it out. Please also tell us if you have your Windows CD/DVD handy.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • In the custom scan box paste the following:
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    activex
    drivers32
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    wininit.exe
    hlp.dat
    /md5stop
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt<--Will be minimized

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Watch Topic.I suggest you click it and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

regards myrti

is that a bird?  a plane? nooo it's the flying blueberry!

If I have been helping you and haven't replied in 2 days, feel free to shoot me a PM! Please don't send help request via PM, unless I am already helping you. Use the forums!

My problems that Iím having start upon system startup.

For some reason a file called MyDVD pops up saying it was trying to install and then an error message popped up saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click Ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package MyDVD.msi in the box below." The path it suggests to look for this file is C:\hp\tmp\src\

If I cancel out of that error message, a different error message similar to this one pops up with HP Digital Media Archive saying the same message, but asking for EZARC.msi with the path being C:\hp\tmp\src\DMA_20
Neither of these paths even exist on my computer.

Upon internet connection (itís dialup so the connection speed isnít very fast, but it used to be around 44 Kbps, now I am lucky to get 28.8 Kbps) Iíve contacted my internet provider and they hard coded my DNS, however the problems with internet only just begin there.

Shortly after getting these messages my internet started randomly disconnecting. Pages stopped loading, other pages would give an error message saying that I mistyped the address and then the address that showed in the address bar would be "http:///" and that was all.

It is anyoneís best guess when it will actually connect to a page. If I attempt to refresh the page if it doesnít load, it sometimes will load after 3 tries or more, otherwise if I reset my browser settings, close internet explorer and open it up again, sometimes it will load the page, other times it wonít.

My yahoo messenger is always temperamental, but it now will freeze up and disconnect without warning. My msn messenger rarely seems to connect any more, where it was always most reliable.

I have a hard time often getting into email, which you can imagine is frustrating since I run my own business off this computer and I need access to it.

Past actions have been resetting my internet explorer defaults, running spybot S&D, running Avast Antivirus (nothing was found) I've read through the "before you post" and performed all the things suggested and still i'm having the same problems. Now I downloaded the dds.scr but it doesn't run a program, it only opens a file of nonsensical symbols. therefore, I can't save the txt files that are suggested.

Before doing the things suggested on this forum, I've restored my computer to a previous restore point about 3 times, but it always comes back with the same issues. I'm a bit worried that I'm on the verge of a format which I would like to avoid!

I am running Windows Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600. As far as I could tell from the ďbefore you runĒ instructions, it is a 32 bit system.
My computer never came with a windows cd/dvd. All of the disks are just on the computer drive and I donít have the means of burning them to cd because my DVD Writer stopped working as well.

I canít run a DDS script because it doesnít run a program when I try to run it, it only opens a notebook file. So I canít get that log.

Do you need me to run the gamer and malwarebytes again? Here are the OTL logs:

Hi,

most of the issues you describe at boot sound as if a program from HP has been corrupted. I would suggest that we disable their launch on startup and you reboot and let me know if the issues persist. If that doesn't help I would suggest uninstalling them, this may (or not) restore functionality to your dvd-drve. You could also check if your drive works in safe mode, where the HP programs will not be loaded.

Go to Startand click on Run As. In the windows that opens, type in msconfig and hit enter.
A new interface will open, in that window, locate the tab Startup and remove the ticks before the following entries:
  • HPBootOp
  • HPHUPD08
  • Pin.lnk
click accept and close the window. Then reboot and let me know if it makes any difference.

The diminished internet speed could, for example, be due to updates that are being downloaded by some of your applications, but we will look into this later.

I shut off the HPbootop and HPHupD08, but I couldn't find the Pin.lnk in the start up list. I rebooted and the same message came up about MyDVD.msi. When I logged on and opened Internet Explorer, my msn home page didn't load. I loaded the bleeping computer thread and it took 9 minutes to load half way and then wouldn't load the rest. I had to reload the page to get it to fully load.
My MSN messenger won't load at all, it says when i do a troubleshoot that the hosts, dns and keyports have problems.

Well, I had a serious setback when I started it in safemode it started up fine. Then when I reloaded it in regular mode, everything went wrong. there were zero programs that worked, I couldn't log on to the internet, I tried system restores, but all my restore points had been erased, I tried various recovery tools that failed to work. I finally had to break down and take it to someone who tried to do a system restore, but turns out the Restore partition on my hard drive was empty. So he had to download a copy of Xp media center from the internet and do a complete reinstall. Needless to say my MyDVD.msi problem is fixed.
It's frustrating that I now have to attempt to reinstall all my programs with a dialup connection because somehow when he reinstalled my modem, it refuses to connect faster than a 28.8 kbps connection. Anyways. I wanted to thank you for your help, but I guess the original problem is fixed and I know you have many others who need your help. I am just going to start working on downloading flash and java and reinstalling my programs that I need. If only flash wouldn't keep timing out in the middle of downloads, I'd be relatively calmer!
Thank you so much for your help.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out for you. If data starts "disappearing" on your drive and the PC is behaving erratically, I would take the time to check that the disk is good and not starting to die on you. This could prevent future annoyances.
