My name is Adam, and this is my first post here, so bear with me, as it's going to be long and detailed because I'm leaving in a few days (without this computer), and leaving the country a few days after I return. Thanks in advance!

In installing a program I downloaded, I got a popup in the taskbar stating "Your Computer is Infected" with an icon of a circle with a white X in it; I clicked on it, and it downloaded Spy Sheriff to my computer...I realized this was bad, stop its search, and started looking around online to find what to do.

First, I ran a full system scan with Ad-Aware followed by SpyBot S&D.

Meanwhile, I read some posts on various boards and found RunThis.bat from noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1, downloaded it and downloaded ewido. After the scans and a few restarts, I rebooted in safe mode and ran RunThis.bat -- I don't think it _did_ anything though, just opened a Cmd Prompt and quit it. I ran ewido and 2.5 hours later, cleaned up the files, and restarted normally.

Now Spy Sheriff doesn't open anymore on startup, nor does the icon with the "Your Computer is Infected" prompt. However, Windows Explorer crashes on startup and I get errors opening c:\WINDOWS\inet20003\services.exe (which I've determined isn't even something I want); it also says I'm missing 0oqw0ub0.dll.

I went over to run the instructions off the BleepingComputers website, signed up, and re-ran Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D. Adaware cleaned up a bunch of things, as did Spybot, but Spybot had a problem with CoolWWWSearch.WCADW -- I got this error: "Unexpected error in fixing problems (Fehler beim Setzen der Daten fur 'Local Page')" (as well as 'Home Page' I believe, in place of 'Local Page', depending on which subitems I checked/unchecked).

Next I went to use the malware scanners, but my IE is broken. If I open it manually, it takes me to c:\secure32.html which tells me I have errors, and links me back to www.spy-sheriff.com, and eventually quits -- I can't manually quit it because it says it's running something. The only way I can get internet with IE (Firefox, luckily, works) is by opening up My Computer (or similar) and typing in an address. However, popups freeze, so I can't use Panda or Bit Defender.

I ran HouseCall but it told me "An error ocurred while trying to transfer data from the Internet!", and again after I clicked to resend the files.

With WindowsUpdator, there is the same problem as Panda / Bit Defender -- it won't work because of my IE problems.

Next I downloaded Stinger and ran it, and it finished without reporting any problems -- I don't know if it's supposed to or not, but it only told me how many files it scanned.

I then restarted and re-ran Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D, resatarted, and ran them again -- Spybot S&D gave me Windows Security Center, BackWeb lite, CoolWWWSearch.Leftovers, and CoolWWWSearch.WCADW each time, and all were deleted (I don't delete BackWeb, I believe it helps with my Logitech cordless mouse/keyboard. Ad-Aware returns no critical objects.

Last, I ran HJT -- here is my log. Anything that can be done (to remove these erorrs, as well as get rid of my remaining malware (I know there's a bunch, as I've been searching oddly named .exe files in my Task Manager -- Paytime.exe and Smss.exe worry me the most).

Thanks, again

Adam
