I restarted my computer with an XP installation CD and I have update my computer to the latest updates but now I don't know what to do. My computer is still missing sound and the standby button when you shutdown the computer. So I was wondering is there a program that scans the computer for missing components or components that will help? I have also try downloading the SigmaTel audio but it doesn't work.

My computer is still missing sound and the standby button when you shutdown the computer.

While you are updating the sound driver, also identify your display card and make sure you have the latest video driver installed. This may bring your Standby Button back on the shutdown tab.

If you can't identify your specific card or display chip in device manager, try downloading CPU-Z. and selecting Graphics tab.

Regards,
Brooks

Go to the dell support site, enter your service tag number, and download and install all appropriate drivers starting with the chipset driver.
