Had/have a nasty redirect virus on my XP machine.

Ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Found some items and removed them. They came back after restart.

Tried HiJackthis, and deleted the lines indicated by the analyzer. Restarted, problems came back.

My soon to be dead brother swears he can fix it and runs Combofix. It hangs up, we restart, run it again. Never got a results screen. He uninstalls combofix, and installs Ad-aware.

Ad-aware finds quite a few problems, and seems to have wiped fixed them. Even after reboot. But only on my userID, my wifes account still has the problem.

Run Ad-aware on her side, and it finds more problems. We repair and remove them. And reboot.

Computer does fine for a day or two. Now, redirect is back. I reboot the computer to try to run Ad-Aware in safe mode, and cannot get into safe mode.

Booting normally sees the windows logo for a few seconds then a blue screen flash, and restarts....

Booting to Safe mode gets to MUP.sys on the screen last, and then restarts.

I tried running the recovery console of my XP install CD. it gets to the "which installation..." question. I type "1". But it doesn't ask for my admin password. just goes straight to c:\windows dos prompt. and does nothing.

Please help. I have a slightly bruised brother I will trade for your assistance.

I am pretty well screwed, aren't I? I cannot even get into a Windows environment to run Logs.
