After updating with KB2507938, his USB wireless mouse and keyboard stop working. Apparently his regular, wired keyboard works. Doing a System Restore fixes the problem, but after turning the computer off and then on, etc., the update reapplies itself.

I should mention that my friend is http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/user-695841/darkscythe/ , who's had malware trouble recently. I don't know if that issue could be connected to this one or not.

I wish I could say that he will, but he seems to be too frustrated at this point :(. It would, in fairness, be difficult for him to post, but not impossible. What is impossible is convincing him to deal with this. So if this can be done with me relaying messages, that would be ... easier for him, I guess.

Also, I'm vaguely wondering if deleting the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download would prevent the update from reapplying itself, but I'm not certain, and don't want to risk breaking anything.

that is really odd that that windows update affects your USB Devices when it doesn't even involve USB.

What kind of Devices are these?
