After a long wait the music streaming company, Spotify, has finally launched in the United States. Spotify is a free music streaming service with over 15 million tracks in its catalog. The company derives its revenue from advertisements shown in the Spotify player or through paid subscriptions that offer more features and more listening time. Spotify has received many positive reviews and is a very popular service in Europe where it has been available for quite some time.

Currently in the USA there are three subscription packages available. The first is a free subscription service, which is currently invite only, that allows you to listen for 20 hours a month for the first 6 months and then it drops down 10 hours/month and a total of 5 plays of a particular track. You also have the ability to subscribe to a paid service that offers unlimited listening as well as the use on mobile devices and other clients.

Several months ago I signed up for an email notification, when the service is ready in US.
It arrived today with an actual invitation, so I'm all set :)

I got an invite and went ahead and upgraded to premium.. the service is amazing.. I like pandora because of the free mobile use and constant radio style, which I heard is coming to spotify soon.. but I would say it's still worth the 10 bucks a month.
