I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP3 on an ASUS EEE PC (1005HAB). I recently had an issue with the infinite loop (where the BSOD kept rebooting my computer and I could not access the desktop except by safe mode with/without networking). Since the problem was the igxprd32, I by chance decided to uninstall one of the video/graphics drivers. I ended up deleting the "other drivers" in the device manager. This worked and helped and I was able to access my desktop & the infinite loop disappeared. Everything was working perfectly. Or so I thought.

Now I get this error on start up, "Missing VGA driver, Display switch hotkey is void. Please install GA driver." I looked on the device manager, and the driver pictures for the Video Controller and the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) were both yellow question marks. So I went on the ASUS website, updated the BIOS, and drivers. When I finally got to the VGA driver, it loaded, installed, and then the screen got really big and froze for a while. The Blue Screen came back and I had to reset the computer. The computer once again, blue screened before I reached the desktop and the infinite loop was back. I had to go back to the last known good configuration (Pressing F8) where the VGA drivers turned right back into question marks.

I can't change the screen resolution, and my FN+F_ keys don't work. It's hard to work on a Netbook with such a small screen resolution (800x600). My adobe stuff can't save because my resolution is too small...How can this be fixed? (Sorry for the wordy post, I really want to make sure you guys can help me without any burdens to you.)

Any help is appreciated!

Just wondering...if you deleted ALL drivers...before achieving limited success...I would hesitate to peg video drivers as "the problem."

Worth reading, IMO: http://www.strcmp.org/acpifix.html

No, no, no. I didn't delete all the drivers. I deleted that driver pretty much only because the computer said I couldn't delete them because it was safe mode/it was needed for the computer to run. Every other driver works right now. The reason why I pin it on the VGA driver is becayse whenever I install the VGA driver for this computer the blue screen comes back. Without fail.

How do you use the ACPI fix. I know it says it is obsolete, but I'd like to try it anyway. I downloaded it, but I don't know what to do from there.

Sorry...I can't tell you any more about that link than what is written there, just as I can't tell you anything about Asus netbooks.

I can tell you that I would try searching the Asus support documentation for that system, that error message.

We need to know more about your BSODs...

Download BlueScreenView (in Zip file)

No installation required.

Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program and When scanning is done, go to Edit > Select All.

Then go to File > Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

@ hamluis -- Thanks for your help. I didn't really know what to do, and wherever I looked they said the fix doesn't work anymore. Thanks though! It means a lot!

I'm not sure what you mean by the last part (after "The below is for those who cannot get online")

The data collected/reflected via the Speccy report...is online...that's why the submitted report is reflected as a link.

If a user wnats to post that data and cannot get online to the source where the report is...then the alternative is to prepare a .txt file and attach it to the member's next post.

@ hamluis - Ohh.. thanks again :)! The wording was a little confusing on his earlier post.

@ cryptodan - Okay here's what happened. I was able to get the Video Controller to work earlier with a previous version of the Intel 945 Express Chipset. My FN keys work now.

But the VGA Compatible Video Controller is still not working. When I downloaded and installed the newest version of Intel 945, I reset the computer like it said, but the blue screen came back and I was not able to go to my desktop.

Here's my device configuration right now that works. (It lets me onto the desktop, no blue screen, FN Keys work, etc.)

Right Click on it, go to Properties then to the Details Tab, select HardwareIDs in the drop down menu and paste the top one here.

Try this link: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect it should detect the drivers automatically.

Yes, I used that but that driver causes my computer to BSOD...I can say that I rolled back the VGA Video Controller and it gave me the same driver as the one under the display adapter (Intel 945GM Express Chipset etc) But then I'd restart and the computer would crash. Once again repeating the whole process of returning to the Last Known Good Configuration. The VGA Driver has something wrong with it.

EDIT - Here is what Intel tells me

Posted Image

That driver causes the blue screen to happen.
