I just bought a compaq presario CQ62-219WM laptop for my daughter. It running 64 bit win. 7. This a new laptop and as you know about the dreaded windows updates This afternoon when my daughter started it said it was installing 75 updates well all was well until it started installing #9 of the 75. it has been hanging there for the last 3 hours. What can I do to end this update and get on with the rest.

Have you checked to see if anything has minimised to the taskbar? Something requiring your attention might be down there and is not progressing until it has your input (sometimes an internet explorer upgrade does this). Possibly an update has stalled but is unlikely. Can you see what update 9 is, is there any description?

It never made it to the sign in window it just popped up and says not to unplug or shut off you computer windoze is installing updates and once it got to #9 of 75 it hung up there for over 3 hrs. had no use of the key board or anything to find out what it was. Finally I just shut it down and removed the power cord and battery for a couple of min replaced battery and started it up windows finished installing updates and everything is back to normal for now

Thanks for the reply.

I find that...when that happens with Win 7...just restarting the system and resuming the updates works...as you did :).

Happy computing :).
