I will be in the middle of writing an email, playing a game or just logging on and all of a sudden I get a bright blue screen pop up very quickly. Only part of the screen I've been able to read says preparing for crash dump, then my computer shuts down. It has happened about 5 times in the last 2 weeks. I run a virus scan thru AVG and the only thing that ever pops up says I have something tht is signed with a broken digital signature. Is this something fixable? My laptop is only a couple years old and I would really like it to last for a few more.

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

I'd like to see the driver listed for the 7/12 error - can you post that entire dump from the blue screen text please?

Meanwhile, from your first post it appears you've been getting these errors for quite a while, though not every day. So let me suggest the following:

1) Please look in device manager - any yellow or red symbols? If so, please tell us with which devices they are associated

2) Please run checkdisk as follows: right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type: chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.

3) Is Vista Service Pack 2 installed? If not, please install it: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16468

4) Please check Ram: To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

5) Please run full scans with BOTH AVG and MalwareBytes -- what is the exact message you get about a broken digital signature from AVG?

That should keep you busy for a while :)

Not sure how to send the dump for 7/12.

Yep, been getting the errors for a while. First thought my son had taken my computer places it shouldn't go. Now, not so sure.

1) No yellow or red symbols in the device manager.

2) Ran chkdsk/r. Came back that the "volume was clean"

3) Yep, Vista service pack 2 is installed.

4) Do this one when I am more awake.

5) C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSAPINS\COMP1\Intel Chips...The file is signed with a broken digital signature

Okay, that message is not an issue. Let's see what happens with memtest.

Ran AVG, only came back with the broken digital file thing. Ran MalwareBytes, came back with 60 issues. Removed what it could but then told me there were some items that couldn't be removed?

I'd do two things:

1) I'd still run Memtest

2) Then post in the Am I Infected forum on this site and let them check you out

Running Memtest. At 157% coverage it shows 2 errors. Will run it longer later this morning if you need me to.

Well, the fact that it reports errors is not good.

Sure, just replace the ram. Open the case and see how many sticks of ram you have. If more than one, remove one stick and re-run the test. If it passes, just replace that stick. Keep performing the same process until you identify the ram module with the problem. You can then go to Crucial.com to identify and (if you like) purchase the appropriate ram.
