Hi all. I can't figure out how to fix this. Since I had installed DropBox, almost all my icons now have those annoying dropbox additions - the green chekmark, and the blue >> marks. I cannot get rid of them, even after uninstalling DB. This happens to jpg, pdf, ppt, doc, and just about any type of a document or image file. Even files that do not show the stupid checkmark, etc, will do so after I re-order or refresh a window. Please help. Here is a screenshot to show what I mean.

Warning : Backup your Registry using ERUNT before proceeding.

- Click on Start Menu. Type regedit.exe and press Enter.
- In Registry Editor, find this key : HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jpegfile\DefaultIcon
- Change the (Default) value to %SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll,-72
- Restart your computer.

Well, I did as you suggested, but still, no soap. I still get those stupid additions to the icons. Any other ideas? Thanks.

(added in edit): Actually, now that I rebooted twice, the problem is sporadic and inconsistent - which is odd for a computer. When a window first opens, no added symbols appear on the icons. First "refresh" (whether its a sort, or change of display, some, not all, show the green or blue squares. Second refresh, they all show them. Weird...

Okay, so performed a test install of DropBox and it leaves a mess behind after uninstall. Try these steps :

Backup your registry using ERUNT as mentioned before.

1. Open Registry Editor and open the following key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers

2. Look for Subkeys beginning with DropboxExt like DropboxExt1, DropboxExt2, DropboxExt3 etc. Delete them all.

3. Reboot.

Or you can try Revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/)
