I have been having problems with my computer being hijacked for at least 3 months. Have Windows XP, on my computer. I also regularly run Ad-aware,Spybot, and Norton Anti-virus. I am currently using Mozilla so I can still surf the net without problems, but I would still like to have my computer hijack free. I am hoping you can help. Since I am not a computer whiz, please explain each step I need to take.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
Here is my Hijack this log:

Hi garquillo.

Download and install Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under the Programs section of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

Now press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections. In the right section the name AppInit_DLLs should be highlighted. Double-click on the AppInit_DLLs entry and copy and paste the text found in the value field in your next reply to this post.

You don't have the latest version of HijackThis. Open HijackThis again then, on the right hand side, click on Other stuff, then Config, then Misc Tools, then Check for update online.

If that doesn’t work delete the copy you have and download a new copy from one of the following links:

Please follow these steps:

Step 1:
Go to Control Panel >Folder Options > View

Scroll to the bottom of the list to find the box labeled:
Use Simple File Sharing(Recommended)
Remove the check from that box and press ok.

If you are using XP home you won´t see this option in the list, in this case skip this step.

Step 2:

Download CWShredder

Save that file somewhere as we will use it later.

Step 3:

Download this file and then immediately sign off the
internet and stay off until all steps are finished:

http://computercops.biz/modules.php?name=F...ownload&id=1183

Extract the batch file (hiving.bat) and run it. If you have script blocking enabled you will get a warning. Please allow this to run. The script is just producing a message box.

After a reboot the super hidden nasty file will no longer be loaded and will be visible. This will end the constant reinstall of about:Blank.

Step 4:

Restart the Computer.

Find this file:
c:\windows\system32\ms.dll

Use the security tab on ms.dll and take ownership.
Change the 'everyone special' to
'you> with Admin rights-> FULL control
Then try to delete it, if that fails try to rename
it first to different name+ext.

Example:
ms.dll>bleh.txt
bleh.txt > badfile.111

If you are using XP home you won´t see the security tab, just right click the file, go to properties and unmark read only

Step 5:

Extract and Run CWShredder immediately.
Press the fix button to clean.

Restart and run hijackThis again.
Post your new log here in your next reply.

Please download this tool from: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxAgentB.exe

1. Save the file to a convenient location, such as your desktop.

2. Important: If you are on a network or have a full-time connection to the Internet, such as a DSL or cable modem, disconnect the computer from the network and Internet.

3. Close all running programs.

4. Double-click the FxAgentB.exe file to start the removal tool.

5. Click Start to begin the process.

6. Click 'OK'.

The tool will now start to scan your system (it will take a few minutes).

7. Restart your computer.

8. Run CWShredder again, click Fix, don't just scan. Let it fix everything it asks about.

9.Run Ad-Aware again and let it fix anything it finds.

Post back here with a new HijackThis log and the newly created FxAgentB text log.

Restart HijackThis and put checks next to the following, close all browser windows (including this one) then click on 'Fix Checked':

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:NavigationFailure
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:NavigationFailure

Click here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows. Click here to get the latest version of Internet Explorer. It's very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks.

You don't have the latest version of HijackThis. Open HijackThis again then, on the right hand side, click on Other stuff, then Config, then Misc Tools, then Check for update online.

If that doesn’t work delete the copy you have and download a new copy from one of the following links:

LINK 2

LINK 3

Then post a new log back here.

You are up to date with both Windows and I.E.

You still haven't got the latest version of HijackThis however, or you have but you're still running the old one.

Your log is looking much better now, how's it running?

downloaded the latest version...though I did this before but I guess I must have hit the wrong button somewhere. Here is the latest log.
So far it seems to be working fine.
Thanks for all the help. Let me know if there is anything else I need to do.
I do have an unrelated question for you, every time I restart my computer I get something from realplayer that pops up telling me it can't find something. Is there a way to get rid of this?

You'd need to tell me exactly what message you get about realplayer:

Your log is clean now

It's a good idea to Flush your System Restore after ridding yourself of malware:

1. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check Turn off System Restore.
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
6. Restart the computer.
7. Follow steps 1 to 3 again, then uncheck Turn off System Restore tab.

When you are sure you are clean create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

More info and download is available at:
SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
SpywareGuard: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.

More info and download is available at:

The message that I get comes in a gray box and says:

Unable to establish connection with server

more info available at Realnetworks customer support website.

I did reset my system restore point.

The spyad program looks very involved, I'm a little leery about getting into that one. Is it easier to use than it looks?

The spywareguard site talks about possible compatiblity issues, would ther be any since I am running Norton?

Thanks again,
Gerry
