I am running windows 7 on an hp desktop computer. Yesterday everything was running fine. Last night, windows update tried installing 4 updates:
2 security updates for .NET framework 3.5.1 on windows 7 and
2 updates for windows 7 for x64 based systems.
It says these updates were downloaded & computer rebooted, but updates failed.
Today, I cannot open many programs. For example, when trying to open IE, firefox, MBAM, skype, zonealarm, a box pops up that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." when opening the troubleshooting menu and click on find and fix problems, nothing happens.
I opened the computer in safe mode and ran MBAM just in case but there was nothing found. Troubleshooting will not work either in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
I would really appreciate any ideas.
Thanks!
