I have a Facebook related problem on my computer, but none of the antivirus programs helped me to remove it. I thought at first it's a Koofbase, but TDSS killer and Microsoft mrt couldn't find anything.

Here is a problem, in a nutshell:

1) Windows Security Center Service is disabled in safe mode, can't get it to run at all

2) when I enter facebook.com in the browser, there is a tiny flash in a form of a prolonged

dot in the login screen (as if keylogger is activated) before normal cursor line appears.

Every time I go to this domain, firefox starts to be behave funny in all other windows

afterwards.

3)google search results are usually normal, but sometimes they appear in french or chineese

(though I only expect English)

As soon as I install flashplayer add-on in firefox, problem seems to intensify.

There is something weird with firefox plug-in container too. Too much activity for no

reason.

3) SuperAntiSpyware, Malware Bytes and Hitman Pro didn't find anyhting ( I installed them all

one by one a few days ago after this problem started). I had Micrsoft Security Essentials earlier, uninstalled it for

now.

Run them both in normal and in a safe mode (that's when I noticed that Windows Security Center Service is completely disabled in safe mode, though appear to be running in normal mode )

4) HiJack this looks more or less normal, no unknown entries though there are a few

questionable ones, TDSS Killer didn't find anyting either

5) I disabled proxy on firefox (set network connection to no proxy), uninstalled and re-installed firefox, and when tried to go to Facebook, got an error: site is unavailable, retried couple times

by entering facebook domain in the browser, then clicked on "retry again" button on firefox -

and was "magically" connected, but again with the same pain-in the ass behavior (some blink

of a short cursor, almost a dot first, then cursor shows up as normal)

Note: this behavior is not noticed on other sites.

it looks like some hidden soft causes a redirect for FB through a malicious site, and arrive at FB with some pre-load

when I try to access FB directly by entering one of its ips:

69.63.176.13
69.63.181.15
69.63.184.142
69.63.187.17
69.63.187.18
69.63.187.19

I get an error: the connection has timed out

I can connect to FB through:

69.63.181.11
69.63.181.12

and in this case a login screen is clean, there is no freakish behavior on the login screen

6) when I last time logged on to my firewall (separate device) through the browser

(firefox) on this comp, the browser had frozen, and then when I tried to reconnect, I got

an error that this is not the same browser used for latest login (as if browser was

modified). I know for sure that this shouldn't be happening.

7) Sometimes my speakers are muted for no reason, without my participation

8) checked disk integrity, both through scannow and built -in check (on startup), seems OK.

9) run mrt from microsoft - nothing found

10) looked at hidden devices through DeviceManger - nothing out of the ordinary

11) looked at startup programs through msconfig, nothing suspicious

I attached logs per your instructions.

Hope you can help.
Thank you in advance.

Hi CatByte, thanks you for your response.

Ok here is the DDS log.

Please note: For Nameserver, DHCPNameserver there are specific ips I use to connect. Since it's a public forum, i don't want to show them here. I changed them on "IP1" and "IP2" . If you need this specific ips for investigation, I can PM them to you.

Hi,

Please do the following

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide

  • Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

    Link 1
    Link 2

    * IMPORTANT !!! Place ComboFix.exe on your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.

You can get help on disabling your protection programs here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Ensure your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi CatByte,
Combofix log is below. Again, I removed DHCP nameserver and nameserver ips from the log for security reasons.

Hi,

Please do the following:

  • Please open your MalwareBytes AntiMalware Program
  • Click the Update Tab and search for updates
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Hi,
I updated and run MalwareBytes, nothing found, a log is below.

I also downloaded and run ESET. But I can't post a log. It says no viruses are found (or something similar), and there was no "list of threats found" button, so I can't save a log.

Here is a log from MalwareBytes:

Nothing really changed.

I still have this strange behavior (described earlier) each time I go to www.facebook.com.

Hi, here are the problems:

1) can't go in a safe mode by pressing F8, I have to use msconfig to configure a reboot with safe mode

2) facebook - as I mentioned earlier, when I type http://facebook.com (or https://facebook.com), I am sent to facebook login screen, but before a cursor shows up as normal at username field, a tiny line appears in this field, approximately 1/3 of the length of the cursor as if the login info is being recorded somewhere.

When I login to facebook, and switch to http mode instead of https (to get access to some programs that are not available in https mode), If i try to watch a video, flashplayer is always flashing first for whatever reason.

I understand that program could flash when used first time, but it shouldn't happen each time. May be it's just quirks, I don't know, but I haven't seen such behavior before.

3) Windows update is not working as it should - I configured it to install updates automatically - but instead I have to go in and click "check for updates". Only then new important updates show up.

Plus, sometimes important updates don't show up even in this case, so I have to use option "Fix Problems with Windows Updates".

May be it's just computer quirks, but early on updates were issued automatically without problem, and I didn't see any strange behavior when going to facebook and watching videos

You may want to consider a Repair Install, which will leave your programs and files intact but will repair any corrupt installation files

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/install-reinstall-uninstall

let me know if that is a possibility

I didn't find "repair install" on that link.

Only custom install or upgrade. Custom will delete all my files. Upgrade is available through "windows anytime upgrade" but I have to pay for it and I am not going to.

Or you're talking about the option "Install more than one operating system (multiboot)"? I don't want that either.

Please send exact link that is talking about repair install.
