My budget for the new computer is: < or equal to $700.00 (If there is something perfect or way better for $725.00 or something, that is fine)

What are the primary uses for this computer (IE: mail, web browsing, programming, games, etc)? Internet browsing, word processing, some games, email, engineering programs (nothing intense - that is what the Engineering computer lab is for), and maybe some programming.

What software do you intend on using on the computer? AutoDesk Inventor, IE, Outlook, MS Office, etc.

Do you play games? If so, what type of games? Some games. Nothing with intense 3D graphics though.

Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program when you are done using it? I usually have Outlook and IE running in the background regardless of what I'm doing. Unless I plan on using something that takes up lots of RAM that is.

Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer? Nothing extensive. <100GB of music, pictures, and video

I would like a 15" screen. Not sure how available, high quality, or financially friendly (with given specs)a touchscreen would be, but I am a fan. Not sure if it plays a role, but I would use an external mouse.

Would adding $100 to the budget make a big difference in performance?

The price is just perfect with the performance you would already get :thumbup2:

Yes, I agree with you.

I also agree. Absolutely great find. I currently have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and can honestly say that after two years it is still going strong.

Fantastic series of laptops and I definitely recommend considering going for this offer! :)

MSI FX420-002US

That's a pretty good offer as well. I am not familiar with MSI laptops but the specs are very reasonable considering the price.

You could also consider checking out ebay; they usually have a great range of laptops for extremely cheap prices. For example:

Toshiba Satellite L675D

Toshiba Satellite L655

Toshiba Laptops

You could also try searching for ASUS or HP laptops, as you will find similar specs in a similar price range.

Just to get an idea of what you can find. Incredible bargains considering the specs on these laptops!

Hope that helps. :thumbup2:

HP has a high failure rate after a few years.

As long as the warranty is offered it should be ok. The main laptop sellers are all businesses anyway, so you are actually in good hands. I have bought a few laptops off ebay and the only difference with buying it from ebay compared to a retail shop is the large reduction in price.

In saying that, as with anything you buy online, you do need to be careful. If you choose power sellers/businesses on ebay, you should be fine. :thumbup2:
