Hello and welcome. Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:
  • Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until Iíve given you the ďAll clear.Ē Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean!
  • Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.
  • Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed.
Posted Image Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Posted Image

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please include the following in your next post:
  • ComboFix log

I ran Combofix and I believe it finished properly. It did not give me a confirmation that it was complete, but the log opened up in notepad, so I'm assuming it finished properly. The desktop icons and start menu items reappeared so I assume it got most of the problem. However, I used a flash drive to transfer the log to my other computer so I could post here...Microsoft Security Essentials found the conficker worm on the flash drive after inserting it. Just thought you'd like to know.

Paul:

Are you not able to access the internet on the infected PC? Be careful with that flash drive - I'd recommend that you reformat it. Please do this next:

Posted Image Open Notepad Go to Start> All Programs> Accessories> Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad ) and copy all the text inside the Codebox by highlighting it all and pressing CTRL C on your keyboard, then paste it into Notepad, make sure there is no space before and above http://

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic407698.html
Collect::
c:\windows\system32\srqrikpu.dll
Driver::
rmpdbtgz

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then disable your security programs and drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

Posted Image You have this program installed, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM). Please update it and run a scan.

Open MBAM
  • Click the Update tab
  • Click Check for Updates
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • The program will close to update and reopen.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Uncheck any entries from C:\System Volume Information or C:\Qoobox
  • Make sure that everything else is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Please include the following in your next post:
  • ComboFix log
  • MBAM log

Paul:

How is your computer running now? Please do this next:

Posted Image Run JavaRa to completely remove your old, unsecure Java applications:

  • Please download JavaRa (Copyright © 2008 RaProducts.org) and unzip it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English or the appropriate language...and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. I don't need to see it unless you have a problem or question.
Posted Image Please run ESET Online Scanner

JavaRa complete. It shut down on it's own without completing, so I ran it again. No errors on the second run.

ESET complete. No log file created, and the browser window would not let me copy and paste here. It found no threats. However, during the first run (I ran it twice) a window appeared that looked suspicious "XP Diagnostics" is what it said, I believe. Second run the "XP Diagnostics" did not appear.

So, not sure what to think of all that, but the machine is running well. All desktop icons are back, start menu is back, and tray icons are back. Some errors with programs that are trying to run...probably garbage that is corrupt and needs to be uninstalled/reinstalled, or startup items that don't have proper registry entries.

Let me know what to do next. You've been a great help!

FYI: "ASSERT in LSP" is one of the errors that comes up frequently. Choices are Abort, Retry, Cancel.

Paul:

Please run another DDS scan for me and post only the DDS.txt report (I don't need to see Attach.txt this time).

Please include the following in your next post:
  • DDS.txt log

Paul:

It looks like uninstalling and reinstalling Google Desktop via Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs should take care of the LSP error. Please run this for me:

Posted Image Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of the OTL.txt log and paste it into your next post. I don't need to see Extras.txt
Please include the following in your next post:
  • OTL.txt log
