IE 8 VERY SLOW

Dear Sir,
I have recently purchased a new pc with win7 64bit and it has ie8. Though everthing is working fine but the ie is very very slow.Hardly any page opens.KIndly help me in the matter.

Does the same thing happen if you use a different browser (Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome)?

What Anti-Virus are you running? Some will cause a page to load/open slowly while they are scanning it.

It is Avast Pro antivirus.I cannot uninstall it since it is not showing in 'add remove programme'
