so i have a nVidia 7900 GT gfx card with dual dvi female ports
my question is... to connect it to the monitor do i need a dvi splitter in order to have both ports connected?
or can i simply get a single dvi cable and connect from 1 port to monitor

If you only have one monitor then only use one DVI port. If you have two monitors then use one for one monitor and the other for the second monitor. No need for both ports to be used for one monitor. :)
