Today I was on my laptop and when I closed my internet explorer I noticed a folder had changed to the icon that is usually used for unknown programs. When I looked I noticed all the folders in my computer now look like this and when you double click it goes to search instead of open. So now I have to right click and choose explore. I went to folder options to see if the icon had been changed but it was still set as the folder. I restarted my computer, ran a mcafee virus scan (nothing detected), ran microsoft anti spyware (nothing detected), restored my computer to an earlier point and it is still is not working correctly. Does anyone know why?? Thanks.

I have a Gateway M520 Laptop, Pentium 4 (2.8 GHz), 512 mb ram, Windows XP Home SP2

NOTE: This is a registry edit. If you're not familiar with working in the registry, DO NOT ATTEMPT.
Improper changes to the registry could render your computer inoperable.
Remember to backup the registry before making any changes.
Instructions, on how to do that, can be found here:
Backing up the Registry

To use the Regedits:
Save the REG File to your hard disk.
Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

Go back to the last restart point before the problem started.

The folders reappeared since last post but disappeared again today. Could this be a motherboard problem?
