I need a new monitor too because I think the PC and monitor both overheated and died or something.

My budget for the new computer is: Nothing expensive, I would like it as cheap as possible but I don't mind paying more for a longer lasting PC that won't crap out on me so fast/often.

What are the primary uses for this computer (IE: mail, web browsing, programming, games, etc)?
Web browsing, school stuff, photoshop, I watch heaps and movies and videos and the usual iTunes and stuff.

What software do you intend on using on the computer?
Photoshop, a couple of video players, downloaders and converters.

Do you play games? If so, what type of games?
Nothing major. Just a couple of Facebook games and maple story.

Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program when you are done using it?
Yes I have a lot of programs running at the same time.

Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer?
Yes. Heaps of pictures, videos and music.

About the monitor, I don't know really know how to choose one, just something decent and won't crap out so quick on me will do.

About $500-600. I'm not sure about monitor prices. I'm also going to a trade show so could you guys give me some specs I should keep an eye out for in my case? Especially for the graphics card because I know nothing bout that.

Hmm I think I'm more of a desktop person? I've read up on laptops, they seem to die out pretty fast.

They just get obsolete after a year or so.

Thanks! I don't mean to question your level of expertise but I saw in a thread that you said HP computers are prone to overheating? Since my previous pcs were wiped out by overheating problems(none of them HP though), I kind of would like to avoid that problem if possible. Would upping the budget by 100 help?
