When I go to Control Panel > Network Connections > Create a new connection, my computer just hangs. I have to log off from Windows XP (home) & re-log in.

Please advise urgently as I have to create a new network connection to my ISP.

Also, whenever I boot up, my desktop gets a pop-up saying there's a problem with the PML Driver but the desktop comes on normally thereafter. When I shut down my browser too, a pop-up says Windows Explorer has encountered a problem, Dr.Watson Postmortem de-bugger has encountered a problem, the screen goes blank for a few seconds & then comes back on.

Thanks for any help.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/HPZipm12.exe-11912.html

I would uninstall the HP peripheral and all attendant software...then reinstall it. It may be damaged.

Let's try this.

Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html .

Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file, autoscan takes place.

When scanning is done (screen displays), click Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.

Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.

I don't see anything in the data you posted...that relates to networking/Internet access.

It does look like you would be wise to uninstall then reinstall your graphics/video drivers.

I suppose that it would not hurt to do the same with your network drivers.

Louis

Logging off and then back in...should not correct very many problems, IMO...unless they are relate4d to hardware, PSU, etc...and not Windows itself. Since you say that you have no Internet connectivity, we can rule out IE issues which might be

Thanks for your reply. Will re-install drivers as suggested. For your info, I do have an ADSL connection & am connected to the Internet; what I need to do is create a new network connection to my new ISP (want to change ISP). Also, I forgot to mention initaially that whenever I close my present Intenet connection (ADSL), that's when the pop-up says "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem & needs to close". Thereafter, the computer just hangs & I need to Ctrl+Alt+Del to log-off and log-in again. Incidentally, Ctrl+Alt+Del just gets me the disconnect/log off box, not the running processes/applications that I used to get some time back. Sorry, maybe am too ignorant & troubling you a whole lot, but all your help is very welcome. Thanks in advance again. Appreciate your valuable assistance.

Your DSL provider...should have provided you with specific instructions for setting up a connection properly.

I've never had DSL but I have played on systems belonging to friends who had such. To properly set up their networks...required running software which was provided by the ISP.
