[font="Arial"][size="7"]I have an excel worksheet that all of a sudden will not open. Gives error message "excel cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid.

The software version is Excel 2003 SP3. It opened on Wednesday, alas no more. Please help, lots of word was done on Wednesday and I am getting palpitations even thinking about redoing it all - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/crazy.gif

Have you tried Help / Detect and Repair.

Are you on a network, if so, have someone else attempt to open the file, (.xls, presumably).

If not, OpenOffice can often open Excel files, if you are truly stuck.

Copy your .xls file/s to a safe location, before experimenting.
