Hi folks, I hope someone can help me. I installed Daemon tools but did not give it permission to be the start page or install a toolbar. It did just that and I cannot get rid of it even after untinstalling Daemon and blocking it with adblock. I am using Firefox 5. This thing is really annoying and I have not even got a Google toolbar any more.
Please help.
Thanks

Helen

There should be an uninst.exe file in the Daemon Tools folder.
(C:\program files\DAEMON Tools\uninst.exe)

After you've uninstalled it, you should have your Google Toolbar back. If not, you can download it again.

You will want to read these instructions from Bleeping Compter.

Thank you, yes Rosie, I went into the registry and uninstalled both Daemon tools and the tool bar but still no joy. I still have the Daemon tools start page. I have already downloaded Safari to get rid of it.

Did you try going to the Daemon website for removal instructions? I never fiddle around in the registry so I don't even know how to respond to that.

Isn't Safari a browser from Apple? Or are you talking about some other software?

I think I'm as confused as you are at this point. :o

I found a Daemon tools removal tool in the Stronghold website. I ran it but it could not find any issues. I will have to run a deep scan tonight after I am done here because that takes hours.
Daemon tools cannot be removed through the normal channels IE: Win uninstall, but it has it's uninstall exe in the reg.

You are correct, Safari is from Apple and runs just fine on Windows. So you are not confused at all.

Thank you Rosie, for your help here, I have temporarily relieved my frustration in the following manner...... I uninstalled firefox and made IE my default browser. Then I waited one day and when I was sure that Daemon tools had successfully taken over IE, I reinstalled Firefox, I waited one more day and changed my default to Firefox and all is well and back to normal. Works for me.

That's great, Helen. Glad you got it worked out. Did you get your Google toolbar back?

Oh yes, Rosie, as big as life it is sporting itself on my homepage. Everything is back to normal and I am happy, I do not like it when things on my pc start acting weird. I also installed Browser Protector into my Firefox to ensure that my homepage does not get highjacked again.
