I've lost the sound effects on win xp home. I can play music & videos but all the other sounds like startup, shutdown, recycle bin empty, incoming email etc. etc. have just vanished. Anyone got ideas on how to sort this?
Thanks in advance.

Click Start, go to Control Panel, open the Sounds and Audio applet.

Click the Sounds tab at the top, go to the Sound Scheme dropdown and select Widows default. Click Apply, click OK, and see how that works for you.

Thanks Animal. Just wondered why you have the option to add email address in the first place. I appreciate what you're saying but it does seem a bit strange given what I said before.
Kind Regards

The option for an email address is to alert you of PM's or replies to subscriptions to topics, you may have. This way you can get an email to let you know if someone has replied to your topic and you don't have to stay logged in. Lets you know if you have a PM waiting as well. It's not supposed to be used for direct replies which bypass the forums.

Hope that explains it more clearly.

Sorry for the topic hijack. We return you back to your original issue. :)
