I've got quite a few problems with my computer that all of my Spy/Adware programs are not fixing permanently, and I am not sure how to fix myself. I have run updated versions of: SpySweeper, SpyBotS&D, SpyBlaster, McAfee Stinger, ZoneLab Pro Firewall.

*IE pops up an additional window redirecting me to two places. Everytime the problem was 'reprimanded' by the SpySweeper and now by the Firewall by blocking all suspicious processes listed below, IE now gives me: "C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.html," and won't connect to any sites.

*Forgein applications repeatedly appear after deletion in My Computer and Processes; "mc-110-12-0000169," "cahs," "usbwx," "wkssvc," "epronewsletter," "drsmartload," some moderation of "lsass," "IELower," and many others. Zonelab detected that these processes automatically start and try to connect to the internet as soon as my computer boots. This slows my normal 3-4 kb/s down to 100-200 bytes/s, and I've read that is connected to the IELower.exe.

*SpyBotS&D, though I repair every time I am prompted, repeatedly picks up HKEY problems which are directed to Disable Firewall/Antivirus/Windows Security Updates and Notifications.

*ZoneLab deleted a Win32.Low.Zones.a Trogan found on my computer, but I'm not sure if that may be apart of the problems I'm having. "wkssvc.exe" isn't being detected as a threat, apparently.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my concern. I appreciate any help I can get on this.

Here is my HJT log
Thank you again, *PallasStar

Download this program:

submit files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

C:\windows\enewsletterpro.exe
C:\windows\banmanpro.exe
c:\drsmartloadb.exe

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example grinler.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

HJT didn't pick up the O23 lsass.exe. When booting in Safemode, I went into my Processes and tried to shut down Lsass.exe, but Windows alerted that it was "a critical system process and it should not be deleted, the process should not be ended," and the task bar wouldn't end it, thus I couldn't delete it from it's folder. Should it/does it need to be deleted?

Just to be thorough: Upon rebooting, I did not get alerted that a process was trying to connect to the internet. However when I logged on AOL, IE came up trying to get to Pinkiespalace.net/postinfo.html (where it always tries to redirect me toward), but still had the "C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.html" error. HKEY problems obviously are still present.

(Also, when I went into Windows to delete enewsletterpro.exe, there were 2 applications next to it called elitemediapro.exe, and justin.exe created on 1/09/06: is it safe to delete these, because I have no clue where they came from)

Here is my new HJT Log

Make sure you are trying to delete the right lsass.exe. The right one is in c:\windows. The one in c:\windows\system32\ is actually the legitimate microsoft one.

You can delete these:

elitemediapro.exe
justin.exe

Click on start, then run, and type the following in the open field and press enter:

sc delete Windows Kernel Serivce

Reboot.

To use RootKit Revealer please make sure you are logged in as an Administrator to the computer.
  • Please download and unzip Rootkit Revealer to your desktop.
  • Please leave the defaults set as they are to:
    • Hide NTFS Metadata Files: this option is on by default
    • Scan Registry: this option is on by default.
  • Launch rootkit revealer on the system and press the Scan button.
RootkitRevealer scans the system reporting its actions in a status area at the bottom of its window and noting discrepancies in the output list. It may take a long time please disconnect from the internet and leave the PC to be scanned until it is finished.
  • The log can be very large please edit out the items in the following folders in the log : C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT and C:\System Volume Information, if in the log, before posting it.
  • Please post the balance of the log here in this thread using Add Reply (please double check that it has all been posted as it may be too long for one post)]
Then Download and Save blacklite to your desktop.
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there... like "wbemtest.exe"
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
Copy and paste this log along with the rootkit revealer log along with a new hijackthis log.

When you metioned that the SYS32 lsass.exe was the legitamate application, it suddenly dawned on me that McAfee Stinger actually removed the other yesterday due to a worm. So that's taken care of.

First I want to mention that I downloaded the BlackLight from the address you gave me, but upon opening it did not give me an option to scan or not scan with Windows Explorer about the "scan" button, so I hope it still is okay.

Update: Upon connecting to AOL, I still got the redirecting pop-up getting through firewall, but I haven't recieved the IE error since following the directions in your last post. No alerts that applications are trying to connect to the internet upon rebooting the computer, at least. Also my Windows Security Update Notifications haven't been switched off since following the last directions, but the downloads did suddenly stop without reason... and when I ran Spybot it did not detect HKEY's trying to Disable my Firewall/Antivirus/Windows Security Update Notifications  *knock on wood*

Here are my logs.

Click on start, then run, and type the following and press enter:

Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section.

Right click on Windows Kernel Serivce and delete it.

Reboot and post a last log.

As for the AOL/IE..so you start AOL and it redirects to a page not found error?

Alright, followed the instructions

Yes, whenever my computer connects to the internet through whichever dialer/software, as soon as the connection is made, IE pops up a new page trying to go to "http://www.pinkiespalace.net." This page is entitled at the top, "Web Posting Info" and the message on the page says something along the lines of, "The author of this webpage can edit your web pages through the use of Microsoft Publishing Wizard, etc" I tried to get the full message down before the site stopped responding, and didn't think to do a Screen Cap, but I can do that if you need me to. After your last direcitons, my Zone Lab Firewall was blocking that page from connecting thus giving me the Error and it was letting through the websites I designated without an error. Now it is letting the page through again.

Then just a few minutes ago, just as the webpage got through, I checked my TaskBar and an application called "Pop64" was running, under the process called "EliteMediaPop.exe". Which I thought I deleted the last time. My Firewall alerted me that Pop64 was trying to set up EliteMediaPop to run everytime my computer rebooted.

Other than that, my Windows updates are doing fine, and there is still the matter of the Win32.Low.Zones.a and other Win32 trojans that ZoneLabs scanner and McAfee Stinger are still picking up.

Here is my New HJT.

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

First:
Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Once the updates are installed close the Ewido program.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Once in safe mode, start Ewido and do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report.txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.

Reboot back to normal mode, open report.txt and post it as a reply to this post along with a new hijackthis log.

Hello

I ran Ewido in SafeMode and it picked up a ton of crap to say the least. It didn't give me an option to "Clean," though, just "Remove" or "None." At the end of the scan it automatically started to go through the infections and clean them, but many of them popped up with windows saying "such and such file couldn't not be deleted, remove the whole.." etc. I hope I did it right.

And just to let you know, so far Pinkiespalace hasn't tried to pop-up, via signing on the internet or directly clicking on IE :flowers:

Now, the HJT log was a little interesting. After I ran Ewido and it found/cleaned a bunch of that, Elitemediapro popped up in the log twice whereas it didn't before.

Do this first:

Please download LQfix.exe from one of the following locations:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/LQfix.exe
http://miekiemoes.geekstogo.com/tools/LQfix.exe

Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • You need an active internetconnection, so make sure your you're not blocking any connection now.
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
Then do a scan with HJT and post a new log by using Add Reply

Log looks clean..but this one file looks strange.

Download this program:

submit files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\IXP000.TMP\JAVASUN.EXE

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example grinler.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.

Javasun.exe in that folder you specified was deleted the day after you made this post: (for some reason my email isn't getting the notification of replies lately even though I am set to recieve it). The only thing left in IXP000 (which was created on the date and at the time that a lot of the other bad applications and folders were created on), is Cas.bat, an MS-DOS File Batch. Would you like me to run the file packer on that or just leave it be?

Ewido found another Low Zones Trojan and more Adware in my System Restore Folder... while I have the chance to ask now, I'd like to know (beacuse I'm unsure of how a trojan works) if this is most likely a new infection, or if the same Trojan is worming it's way through my files- and why have most of the infections appeared in my System Restore?

Thank you for helping me through this thus far and for being patient with my questions
I appreciate all your help.
