My laptop hp 530 has this problem where it keeps restarting itself 15 minutes after a dialog box on automatic update appears. It is currently operating on Microsoft Windowws XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2. The message takes some time before it reappears.

Atomatic Updates
Updating your computer is almost complete. Your computer needs to be restarted for the updates to take effect. Windows will restart your computer automatically in 15 (keeps reducing to 0, zero) minutes.
Do you want to restart your computer now?
Then there are these two tabs to choose from:
Restart Now
Restart Later

What could be the problem? Please help.

It could be that the Windows Updates didn't install correctly.

Don't restart the computer, go to Start, click on run, and type services.msc, then click ok.

In th list, highlight Automatic Updates and click Stop the service. Minimize the services window.

Open My Computer, and go to C:\WINDOWS. Find the Software Distribution folder and delete it.

Bring the Services Window back up and click Start the service.

Reboot the PC, allow the updates to redownload/reinstall and see if that resolves the issue.
