Thank you for all you do.
I was trying to download Mozilla Firefox I went to a website that displayed Firefox logo but instead it downloaded and installed a file name FREEzefrog.exe and a bunch of other programs that I immediately removed using control panel/add or remove programs. It also added few shortcuts on my desktop for downloading mp3 music. Since that time on any browser or any link on most pages leads to an ad site. If I enter the url manually I can navigate to the appropriate page, so I have been copying links and placing them manually in the address part of the browser in order to navigate the web.
This happened yesterday after a fresh install of Win XP pro but before windows was able to update. I foolishly went on the web thinking that I should be able to download the latest Firefox, so not to use an outdated IE. Since then I was able to catch up with Microsoft Update , now I have winxp sp3, and ie 8. I have also taken the following steps with no change in behavior and nothing detected since I ran spybot:

-spybot search and destroy which discovered the following:

Microsoft WindowsSecurtyCenter_disabled
Sttings
HKEY_LOeCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvs\Start

Win32.Palevo
Configuration file
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\{810401E-DDE-454e-AA89CE5967C}.job

Win32.FraudLoad.edl
Data
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\{22116563-108C-42c0-A7CE-60161B75E508}.job

-Installed Norton 360 and ran scans including the bootable recovery tool. No viruses detected

I also found this after searching for FREEzefrog.exe that it has been detected by some scanners including bit defender, antivir, Dr Web, which i ran amongst others but none detected any infections. The problem persists whenever I click on a link in Google and other search engines but not when I enter the url in adress area on my browser (including ie, chrome, and firefox). I also disabled any addons that were not recognizable on my browser, and cheched that my network DNS is obtained automatically. My computer does not seem to exhibit other problems except for slowness, but I am running with internet off most of the time fearing that this "Trojan" may send or download other malaware. Luckily I have no email set up on this machine as of yet. I am attaching the DDS and gmer files as descibed in instructions if you can help me I would greatly appreciate it as I tried as far as my ability to do it on my own, but obviously failed.

If it is of any help my search also showed that this has been described as win32/H.Hotbar, Zango.Pinball.B[Hotbar], and Trojan.Downloader3.3542.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Please do the following:

  • Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. (Vista/Windows 7 users - right click to run as administrator)
  • Click Scan

  • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.
