Hello,

I'm using Windows XP. All of a sudden I can't print. When I try to print, I'm prompted to first select a printer, but my printer does not show up. If I click on add printer, I get a message that my print spooler is not running.

The last thing I tried printing was a pdf file. I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it didn't find anything. I tried doing things like unplugging my printer, turning it off and on, restarting my computer and I also did a restore to yesterday. Still can't print.

Thanks for any help! I need step by step because I don't know much about computers. Darlene

Just out of frustration, I turned my computer off again and restarted it. Then I went to "printer" in "my computer" and I could see my printer there HP Laser Jet 1020. When I tried to print something, I got "Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." After I closed that box, I tried to print and it said I needed to select a printer but now my printer is not there anymore.

Go to Control Panel/Printers & Other Hardware/Printers & Faxes...delete every item reflected as a printer.

Reboot the system...reinstall the printer anew, using the correct drivers.

There was nothing in there at all, so I shut down again and restarted and then I could see the printer. I deleted it and then I was able to add it back and it's working now! I'm not sure I'm making sense but what it all boils down to is THANK YOU!!! I appreciate your help. Darlene
