Hi folks: Bloodhound.MalPE, Icmp32.dll, fsharproj keep showing up on my PC.

I am running Windows XP Professional. I have Spybot Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes, and Symantec Endpoint Protection

Upon boot up I get a Message Queuing Service
mqsvc.exe

Error Signature
szAppName : mqsvc.exe szAppVer : 0.0.0.0 szModName : unknown
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\ErrorRep\UserDumps\mqsvc.exe.20110616-192055-00.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERa711.dir00\appcompat.txt

This prevents Symantec Endpoint Protection from running. After a few minutes Symantec protection and the firewall will start working.

When I run Malwarebytes or Symantec they identify the lcmp32.dll BHO and fsharproj BHO and various other files as infected. I attempt to clean them in standard mode or in safe mode (I run the programs separately in separate boots, I don't run them at the same time). In each instance the Malwarebytes and Symantec say that the infections are cleaned but need to restart the PC to continue the cleaning. Then when I restart they reappear.

Symantec has popped up with proactive protection several times identifying Bloodhound.MalPE as a risk. Again, I clean it and it reappears.

When I use Google in Firefox to search my searches are redirected to other sites when I click them.

Logs are included below and attached.

I appreciate your help very much! Thank you for your time!

My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. :)

I am very sorry for the delay in responding, but as you can see we are at the moment being flooded with logs which, when paired with the never-ending shortage of helpers, resulted in the delayed responding to your thread.

I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems.

If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed.

If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:

  • Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
  • If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
  • In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all tools need to be started by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator!
  • If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
  • Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
  • Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
  • I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days
failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
  • Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.

< End of report >

Here is an update of how things are running: I appear to have the same issues as before, however I have not run Malwarebytes.

I am running Windows XP Professional.

Upon boot up I get a Message Queuing Service
mqsvc.exe

Error Signature
szAppName : mqsvc.exe szAppVer : 0.0.0.0 szModName : unknown
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\ErrorRep\UserDumps\mqsvc.exe.20110616-192055-00.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERa711.dir00\appcompat.txt

This prevents Symantec Endpoint Protection from running. After a few minutes Symantec protection and the firewall will start working. I have logged off at night and when I log back on Symantec gives me a pop up that mentions a threat was found.

Please let me know if you have questions or need further information. Again ST, your time and effort is much appreciated.

Thank you!

ST: I should also note that Firefox redirected from Google searches consistently the last week when I clicked on a search. However today I have not been able to duplicate that.

Thanks!

Hi!

No problem!

Looks like we have some work to do.

Please disable TeaTimer.

Disable SpyBot TeaTimer
We need to disable Spybot S&D's "TeaTimer"
TeaTimer works by preventing ANY changes to the system. It will attempt to undo any fixes we run, because it blocks these fixes from running.

In order to safeguard your system from problems that can be brought on by a half finished fix, we need to disable TeaTimer. We can reenable it when we're done if you like.
  • Open SpyBot Search and Destroy by going to Start -> All Programs -> Spybot Search and Destroy -> Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • If prompted with a legal dialog, accept the warning.
  • Click Posted Image and then on "Advanced Mode"
    Posted Image
  • You may be presented with a warning dialog. If so, press Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image
  • Uncheck this checkbox:
    Posted Image
  • Close/Exit Spybot Search and Destroy

NEXT:

GooredFix
Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).

Hi!

Great!

Do the following now:

Running ComboFix
Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • IMPORTANT - Disable your Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

Note: If AVG or CA Internet Security Suite is installed, you must remove these programs before using Combofix. If for some reason these applications will not uninstall, try uninstalling with AppRemover by Opswat.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Posted Image

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the ComboFix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Good Morning!

Before I give you the next set of instructions, I'd like for you to confirm that the Windows Recovery Console was installed when you ran ComboFix.

Have I helped you? If you'd like to assist in the fight against malware, click here Posted Image

Hi!

Great!

ComboFix Script
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below.
  • They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Copy/paste the text inside the Codebox below into notepad:

Here's how to do that:
Click Start > Run type Notepad click OK.
This will open an empty notepad file:

Copy all the text inside of the code box - Press Ctrl+C (or right click on the highlighted section and choose 'copy')

5.Click Save ...

Posted Image
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. If ComboFix prompts you to update to the newest version, please allow it to do so. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

**Note**
When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Hi Agent ST: I was able to accomplish the last steps with a few hiccups. A few details before I post the log:

  • Firefox is now not set as the default browser.
  • When I rank ComboFix it stated Symantec was turned on. Symantec showed it was turned off, but I turned it back on and they back off before clicking OK to run ComboFix
  • My PC did reboot as you detailed. Upon reboot Symantec Endpoint Protection took a few minutes before opening. The firewall acted the same way. I received the error message stating "no firewall protection is turned on, Symantec Endpoint Protection is turned off." After a few minutes they both activated.
  • I got a message stating ComboFix could not connect to the internet and so it created a subfolder @ C:\CF-submit.htm
  • I attempted to send the log via the infected PC but it will not connect to the 'net. It is showing a "downloading update - 14%" Windows yellow exclamation point shield in the taskbar. I rebooted without installing the updates. Upon reboot I received the "Message Queuing Service" error and the notification that the Firewall and Symantec Endpoint Protection are not on. They turned on in a few minutes and I was able to connect to the internet.
  • I tried Google searches and is not redirecting.

Hope that is not too much info...just wanted to share what I am seeing.

Thank you!

Hi!

Firefox is now not set as the default browser.

This was something that was reset by one of the tools I had you run. You can go ahead and set Firefox back as your default browser.

I got a message stating ComboFix could not connect to the internet and so it created a subfolder @ C:\CF-submit.htm

Okay.

I attempted to send the log via the infected PC but it will not connect to the 'net.

Okay.

Let me know how things are running in your next reply.

KillAll::
File::
c:\documents and settings\barry\qakzbsszxs.tmp

Now paste the copied text into the open notepad - press CTRL+V (or right click and choose 'paste')

Save this file to your desktop, Save this as "CFScript"

Here's how to do that:

1.Click File;
2.Click Save As... Change the directory to your desktop;
3.Change the Save as type to "All Files";
4.Type in the file name: CFScript
5.Click Save ...

Posted Image
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. If ComboFix prompts you to update to the newest version, please allow it to do so. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
