I need help..... When I start the computer up the sound icon in the icon tray in the bottom right corner has a Red X over it like its in mute mode which it is not. I then click on it and it says that there isn't any sound devices installed or plugged in. I am on a VAIO laptop with build in speakers. So anyone know how I can fix this?

Open Device Manager

Click on Sound Video and Games Controller.

Right click on Audio device installed.

Click on Properties.... is it working?.... if not.

Update Driver Software.... on same menu.

I found a yellow error. Under other devices it says unknown device on HD Audio Bus. I simply disabled it. Also I have the latest update on "HD Audio device" under sound, video and game controller tab. What do I do now?

Try enabling HD Audio Bus again, check properties to see if working. If not try updating on same menu.

Anyway, go to the Sony website, lookup your model, and download and install ALL drivers (starting with the chipset driver and then all appropriate audio drivers).
