I had some problems with spy sherriff a few weeks ago which i thought i'd solved, but my anti virus program keeps on picking up on infected files, mainly C:\Windows\System32\browsela32.dll which can't be deleted or quarantined at the moment, but occasionaly others like alg.exe

Thanks in advance and here is the Hijack This Log

You have a couple of trojans showing up in your log, not counting spy sherriff.

Lets run the win32delfkil tool for the browsela.dll problem.
No files appear to be remaining from spy sherriff, but we should run smitrem for that anyway.
It may have changed several registry settings which smitrem will fix.
The fix includes an online scan and a scan by ewido which should help clean up anything remaining.

Download win32delfkil.exe.
Save it on your desktop.
Double click on win32delfkil.exe and install it (Installeren).
This creates a new folder on your desktop, win32delfkil.
Close all open windows and browsers, open the win32delfkil folder and double click on fix.bat.
Your script blocking service may popup a warning, please allow it to run.
After it finishes the computer will reboot automatically.
If it does not reboot, press the power button to shut down then restart.

Next steps:

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please download, install, and update the free version of ewido anti-malware:
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes, exit from ewido as it should be run later in safemode.

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware SE from here.
Open Ad-Aware and from the main screen Click on "Check for Updates Now".
After updating, close Ad-Aware, we will run it later.

Please print out the following or copy and paste into notepad for reference while in safemode.

Reboot into safemode:
Restart the computer, begin tapping the F8 key after the computer beeps once but before the windows icon appears.
Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
Using the arrow keys, scroll to and select Safemode, then press Enter.

Scan with hijackthis and checkmark these lines:

Your hijackthis log is clean! Good job running the fixes.

A big thanks to noahdfear for the smitrem tool and Marckie for WIN32DELFKIL.
Also to ewido for a great scanner.

How is your system running now, anything in your anti-virus scans?

You have several good malware scanners and an anti-virus program on your system.
Consider adding the following free programs that help prevent malware from installing in the first place.
Since they each work in a different way, I recommend installing all of them.

SpywareBlaster - Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.

IE-SPYAD adds a long list of sites associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer.

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

These do not run in the background, just check for updates every few weeks.
Open spywareblaster and click check for updates then enable all protection.
Updates for IE-SPYAD and MVPS HOSTS are announced in the software forum at SpywareInfo.

For information on more free programs visit Roll your own Free Security Suite
