How to fix thumbnails to be the default view of open files is something I haven't yet been able to achieve.

The 'Folder Options' in Control Panel provides no solution to this.

I'd appreciate any help with this.

Thank you

Well what I do is open the folder, any folder, right click an area with no icon, click view then click thumbnail, and it stays permanent
that's what I did when i had an XP.

Sarmiento's tip is good for setting just the current, open folder.

To set Thumbnails for All folders:

Open the Control Panel and set it up in Thumbnail view first by clicking on View and selecting Thumbnail.

Now the Control Panel is setup as Thumbnail view. With Control Panel still open, select Tools\Folder Options.

On the View tab, click on the Apply to All Folders button.

Apply \ OK

Sounds confusing, I know, but it works for me. :-)

FWIW: Thumbnail view on anything other than graphics/video files...doesn't seem very useful, IMO.

I employ different settings, based on folder content...with detail view being the one I find most useful for anything other than graphics/videos.

Nice try, TulsaRose - but no cigar.

The 'Apply to All Folders' is greyed out.

But your idea is the right one, and I thank you for the trouble you took to help me out with this.

Thank you all.

My quest continues... B)

Update: Success at last ... and the cigar is on its way, Rosie! :busy:

After fiddling around a little more I discovered that after setting Control Panel to show as Thumbnails - there is no greyed out 'Apply to All Folders' if click Tools > Folder Options in the menu.

Well, shoot, that won't work. I'm very allergic to the adhesive in the patches. :( I'll just settle for a Gold Star. Thanks anyway.
