On starting Win XP Prof, I get a repeating SQLwriter Local Updater.exe message.
I had this problem before, and re-formatted the computer to fix the problem.
A few days after reinstalling most of the software, it is back.
It also creates an error report to send to Microsoft.
Any ideas on what is causing this and how I can stop it.
Post the exact error message please...and tell us exactly when it appears onscreen.
You can usually find the sqlwriter.exe file in "Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server90/Shared" folder. If it is found anywhere else, please know that sqlwriter.exe may be a virus, adware, trojan, or worm.
As soon as the windows desktop appears, the messages start appearing. the message reads, sqlwriter local updater.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. A new message is generated every 20 seconds or so all with the same text.
I dont have the folder Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server on my machine. I did a search for the file sqlwriter.exe and no files were found. I did however find 2 files in the C:\windows\prefetch directory called SQLWRITER LOCAL UPDATER.EXE-0981B9EA.pf and SQLWRITER LOCAL UPDATER.EXE-0ACCABE4.pf
