Hi,

Please help: I cannot connect wirelessly with my laptop on Internet; it connects OK via the Ethernet cable. The problem started after I did a windows in-place upgrade with a SP3 cd (this was because AVG antivirus blocked/deleted the winlogon file and could not boot any more.) During this upgrade I got some messages that some files could not be found i.e. fastprox.dl_, wmiprvsd.dl_, wmiprvse.ex_, and others). Previously I had SP2.

When I go to the advanced tab of the wireless network connection properties, it tells me that Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) might be corrupted (would those missing files have anything to do with it?).
I am also having problems starting the Windows firewall. I get "The windows firewall settings cannot be displayed because the
associated service is not running." When I select to start the Windows firewall/Internet connection sharing (ICS) service I get "Cannot start Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service". When I select Properies of this ervice in the Computer mamagement window and go to Dependencies, I get a messagebox "Interface: Class not registered". When I choose to start the service, I get "Error 1075: The dependancy service does not exist or has been marked for delition".

My laptop has not got any viruses; it was cleaned with the help of the guys from "Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs" forum (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic384739.html/page__p__2167443__fromsearch__1#entry2167443).

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I noted some of them: fastprox.dl_, wmiprvsd.dl_, wmiprvse.ex_, but there were others.

I would try a repair install of Windows, reboot the computer with the Windows disc inserted and start the installation process again. Let Windows detect existing installations and select your current installation and hit R.
