My computer got infected with Windows XP recovery and I followed the instructions on http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-xp-recovery - I was still having trouble so I tried following the instructions here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-xp-recovery I can't get TDSSKiller.exe to run, even when I rename the file. I'm not getting any more results when I run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, but am still having some issues.

I followed the instructions on http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic400541.html/page__p__2290106__hl__windows+recovery__fromsearch__1#entry2290106 and ran DeFogger and DDS.

Here are the results from dds.txt and I can attach the attach.txt if requested:

Hi,

Sorry for delayed response. Forums have been really busy. If you still need help with this do following, please.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds file to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry I'm just responding - I was away on vacation, but I am still having issues. I've attached the two files requested.

  • Don't check

Hi

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.

Please continue as follows:

  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds log.

My Norton Antivirus has Expired and is disabled, but it still shows up in my system tray. When I started ComboFix, I got a warning that said it detected Norton AntiVirus is running and may interfere with ComboFix's runnin, which could lead to unpredictable resultsor possible machine damage.

I tried shutting off Norton Antivirus, but the only options on right click are:
Open Norton Antivirus
Run LiveUpdate
View Recent History
Get Support

I looked on the link you provided for how to disable it and clicked on both Norton help links posted there, but was still unable to disable it. Is there any other way to shut it off or remove it?

Please try Appremover to uninstall Norton.

Ok, sorry that took a little while - I ended up having to download Revo Uninstaller Pro because the windows add/remove software did not seem to be working. I removed the files you specified - I noticed there was still a Java 6 Update 26 - should that be unistalled as well?

I ran the ComboFix report, ESET and DDS and attached them here.

Thanks!

That's the latest one and can be left installed.

Any issues left?

I haven't noticed any of the original problem, but now the machine is running extremely slow - couldthere be any other issues? I also noticed that in my start menu, when I open the programs list it only shows a few programs, but not the complete list like it used to.
