I downloaded something that I thought was legit (I'm usually thorough about it), but you can't win them all. I got some type of virus, and it's pissing me off. Every time I try to search for something on Google, I am redirected to different sites. My computer seemed slower, and AVG kept picking up some malware or virus every so often, which some of them said Object in Inaccessible, so I couldn't do anything about it.

I ran AVG, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Malwarebytes on my computer. AVG picked up 3 infections, and 1 warning. 2 of the infects said Object in Inaccessible. SUPERAntiSpyware only picked up cookies as problems. Malwarebytes picked up 2 infections (I forgot what they were), but I had it removed. I deleted all my Firefox cache and cookies again.

For the Object in Inaccessible, I looked it up on my smartphone, and it said to run AVG in safemode. I did that, and I saw that it deleted 1 virus from it. Afterward, I restarted and ran AVG again. It did not pick up anything this time, but I can tell my computer is still infected. The computer seems to run slightly slower, and sometimes, I am redirected to different sites when I type into Google, or I search for something and I click on one of the links, and it redirects me.

I went through a lot of trouble downloading HJT and making an account on this site (took a while with all the redirections and crap). I am getting desperate to get rid of this.

Here's my HJT log

I want this fixed as soon as possible, so I am looking through other people you (SweetTech seems to be the only person answering everyone, so I'm following his steps) have answered, and I am just following off them. I am not exactly sure if it is important, but I understand if it is vital for you to look at each log step by step before I do anything.

Also, I considered doing a system restore since I want to fix this right now, but I don't know if I should do it. I got the virus yesterday (Friday) and apparently, there is a system restore date on Wednesday and Thursday. For Wednesday, it says that I removed AVG 2011 on that day as the system restore, which I did not on that day. For Thursday, it just says System Checkpoint, which I didn't create either. I am afraid to commit to those system restore points because I did not do them, so I am concluding that the virus did them, to get rid of my AVG 2011 and/or do other things.

But hopefully, that's not important. I took the liberty of doing Rootkit Unhooker and OTL scans, and posted it here. I was considering ComboFix as well, but I would have to uninstall AVG and try it, which I would feel naked in between. Plus, SweetTech usually does something in between, so I didn't want to mess with that.

I can't seem to report the rest of the OTL Extras report. I am unable to edit or reply for some reason.

But apparently, I can type this...

=EDIT=
For some reason, I am unable to post the last 10 error events. If I try to post the whole OTL Extras report, it gets cut off in the middle, and it won't post the rest. I had to trial and error what I couldn't post. I managed to post everything except for the last 10 error events. All 10 events had the source crypt32 and ID # 131080

I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems.

If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed.

If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:

  • Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
  • If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
  • If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
  • Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
  • Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
  • I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days
failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
  • Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.

Oh good lol I was getting a little impatient, so I was going to actually run defogger and tdsskiller before you said anything, but I'm happy to do them with assurance. I know you are really busy helping other people and have other things to do, and I really appreciate your time. Thank you.

I ran defogger and rebooted.

I ran tdsskiller and got 1 malicious rootkit (I forgot the name) which I got cured, and rebooted.

I ran the OTL fix with your code, and it did not ask me to reboot, so I did not.

Here is the OTL Fix Report

Wow. One swift hand motion by you and the computer seems a lot better. Internet seems faster, I was able to post up the 10 application error event logs, my bar on the bottom of the screen doesn't change to old style bar (it was all boxy and white and black), I had a svhost.exe which was taking 180k+ mem usage which is missing now, and I am not being redirected to any other site on google. And honestly, Windows loaded up a bit faster than before the virus lol.

I do have a couple of questions concerning other problems, not related to the virus, though:

=When I turn on my computer, I always have to press F1 at the beginning, because it says Floppy Disk Failure (40). No matter what I do, I cannot seem to get rid of it.

=I can't seem to delete RIMAutoUpdate.exe. I used to have a BlackBerry, and I installed programs from the CD that came with the phone onto the computer. I now have an Android, and I tried deleting the BlackBerry programs, which I got rid of most of them. But I cannot delete RIMAutoUpdate.exe. It is in my Processes in Task Manager every time Windows loads up, which I End Process every time. But it is a small annoyance that I go through.

=And last but not least, I know antivirus programs cannot catch everything. I currently have AVG 2011 start up when I turn the computer on, and I have SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes as back up programs, which I use if I catch anything. I was wondering what you would suggest I have on the computer. And if you suggest another main antivirus program, I heard AVG is a b-tch to uninstall. I would like your insight on that, if you suggest me to delete it.

You do not have to answer those questions if you wish not to. I have received enough help from you already. Thank you so much for your help. I am still going to wait and see if I have any other problems concerning the virus; I might still not be out of the clearing yet. I will re-post anything if I see it. If needed, I will gladly run anything you want and post up the results.

Can you please post the TDSSKiller log for me, so I can see what was detected?

Hi!

Thanks for posting that log!

The main infection that you were infected with is called TDL4.

You can read more about this infection here:

Special thanks to quietman7 for providing the above links.

Posted Image One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan and password stealer.

This type of infection allows hackers to access and remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.
If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it contains any other sensitive information, then from a clean computer, change all passwords where applicable.
It would also be wise to contact those same financial institutions to appraise them of your situation.

I highly suggest you take a look at the two links provided below:
1. How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud, and CC Fraud?
2. When should I re-format? How should I reinstall?

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Let me know what you decide to do. If you decide to go through with the cleanup, please proceed with the following steps.

Wow, it had 7 infections...but 4 of them were from Hijackthis. I clicked on remove anyway, just in case. I don't know if it was a good decision or bad decision.

Hi!

That was fine.

Please perform these scans now;

ESET Online Scanner
I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET Online Scan

Note: It is recommended to disable on-board anti-virus program and anti-spyware programs while performing scans so there are no conflicts and it will speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once the scan is finished remember to re-enable your anti-virus along with your anti-spyware programs.

  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked
  • When the Computer scan settings display shows, click the Advanced option, the place a check next to the following (if it is not already checked):
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin
scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as
ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image

NEXT:

Security Check
Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

I can't seem to turn off AVG 2011. I tried disabling it, but it can only temporarily disable it for 15 minutes. And ESET says it is still on. I tried ending AVG in task manager, but it keeps coming back on after I end it. I'm just going to run ESET while temporarily disabling it.
