First many thanks for any and all help as this is my first time posting. I replaced the hard drive on my dell 9200 dimension with a WD blue cav this am. Took a while as I'm pretty green at this but managed to get it up and running and windows xp downloaded. Problem is I couldnt connect to internet ..so went to the dell site on my laptop plugged in the service tag and downloaded both the most recent bios and chipset software installation to disc then downloaded it to the dimension. Ran both independently of one another rebooted and still am getting yellow ? marks in Device manager on Ethernet Controller, PCI Device and video controller ... what am I doing wrong here??

Did you download/install...the drivers for the Ethernet controller/network device...video function...if the PCI device is a modem, I would not bother with that unless you are on dialup :). Just disable the modem in the BIOS settings.

Or you can install it :).

You need to install the chipset driver. Just downloading it doesn't do anything.

Dimension 9200 drivers

On another system download and install the following:
Intel chipset - install first
Sigma Tel audio driver
For video your guess is as good as mine.
Dell has 7 listed (thanks Dell)
Install the Dell driver under network for the wireless card
Then the 825xx driver for your network card.

Do all that & if you can get online you can update the video card drivers easily.
In the beginning there was the command line.
