Hello,

I bought a new Dell from my parents that never used it. It is a Inspiron 580. I have a Cam/Cad programming business that I am starting. Below are the specs I have. I recently bought a New Quadro FX 380 card for $25 to replace my on board HD intel graphics. I was getting alot of freezing and sometimes rebooting to blue screen. Installed WhoCrashed program and it came up with that is was either power supply or drivers. HERE http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=447852 is the link that had similar results. So I uninstalled all of the drivers for the card and had W7 pick the driver. All seamed better. But after running my SolidWorks and MasterCam for awhile it rebooted I saw the blue screen for a second but it just rebooted. Should I get a bigger power supply or is it a bad video card? I am thinking of getting a i7 880 CPU to put in place of my i5.

PC Spec:

Uninstalled W7 home(64bit) and installed W7 Ultimate(64bit)
Manufacturer Intel® Core™ i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz
Clock Speed 3.3GHz
L2 Cache Size 512
12gb's or Ram DDR3
1tb Hard drive
300watt power supply (Factory dell unit)
Quadro FX 380

I have alot of programs I run on it. Is this to much for my CPU?

PSU 300 watt ,leave it to Dell i would say it should run those program with out problems ,ok for onboard video maybe ,but i think you may need to upgrade it to at leat a 500W
you might want to check with Dell to make sure it will take the I7 cpu .link i looked at only had it coming with the i3 and i5

My answers are my opinion only, usually

Thanks for the input. Ya I thought it should have a bigger power supply. It comes with a Intel H57 Express chipset so it can use any of THESE http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/H57_Express.html CPU's in it. What is the key to the correct power supply on pc's? I always heard that power supplies are over rated as far as a middle level pc like I need.
