Recently I purchased a new laptop from Dell. I have only had it a few weeks, but the entire time I have had extreme issues with the signal dropping. The routine seems to be that the adapter suddenly stops working and you cannot access webpages. It takes a while for the computer itself to actually realize the connection is lost, maybe up to a couple of minutes. After running a windows diagnostic it says it reset the adapter and it will work again, usually popping up a little box in the right-hand corner than says the adapter is available again. It usually only works for about 5-10 minutes before it goes down again, though at times it has worked well for hours before it starts this issue all over again. At first we believed it to be a faulty wireless card, but even after Dell replaced the card we are having the same issue.

I have a second Dell laptop that I have had for over a year, and it usually works fine even while the new computer is constantly losing internet access This leads me to believe it is not the router or the internet connection.

I have spent the better part of the last several weeks searching the internet for any possible solutions to the problem. Several solutions have been tried (including adjusting the roaming agressiveness, checking for driver updates, changing the broadband signals, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, disabling computer browser under services, etc.) sometimes with what appeared to be success as it would work very well for a while...then eventually start having the same issues all over again with renewed intensity. It is driving me crazy! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am not particuarly well-versed regarding networking and wireless, so I am at my wit's end. At this point I am highly tempted to return the computer if a solution cannot be found.

Oh, also when the computer is plugged in directly to the router, the connection is fine. It is only when it is used wirelessly that there are issues.

Laptop having trouble: Dell Inspiron 15R
Running system: Windows 7 64 bit
Wireless Adapter: Intel Centrino Wireless-N1030 1x2 bgn (2.4GHz) + Bluetooth
Router: Netgear N 1500 (I believe)
Distance: Anywhere from 2 ft (no walls) to maybe 20 ft (one wall)
Internet: Comcast cable modem

Laptop NOT having trouble: Dell Studio XPS
Running system: Windows 7 64 bit
Wireless Adapter: Intel® WiFi Link 5300 AGN
Distance: Usually much further away than the other computer. Maybe20-30 ft with one to two walls between.
Internet and Router: Same

I will not have a chance to run the minitoolbox until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, but I am hoping this is enough information to get started. Thanks so much!

FORGOT TO MENTION:

Error often seen is "Default gateway not found" when computer loses contact with the wireless adapter.

Your computer is using a Google public DNS server did you set that or is your computer set to automatically assign a DNS server?

Yes, I set that myself since I've had trouble on my other computer in the past using comcasts DNS server being rather slow to respond. But I did that well after this trouble started and it seemed to change nothing regarding the issues it has been having.

Anyway, the computer is going back. After the wireless card was replaced (which did not help), the keyboard stopped working. They backordered a new keyboard, finally replaced it, and it did not work, either. Then they sent us a new computer all together...which was a downgraded computer instead of an exact replacement. So I am fed up with it, and will not be dealing with this computer and its issues any longer.

Hello Everyone,

I had the same problem and searched for 2 days for an answer.

I am running Intel Centrino Wireless n 1030 in Windows 7.

I finally came across an updated driver for the Centrino Wireless n 1030. It was updated 5/2011 which was more current than the 12/2010 version I had on my computer.

http://www.driveridentifier.com/scan/download.php?item_id=51625129&scanid=6BEF4EB662F14B20B13ACCD8D322B6A9&hardware_id=PCI%5CVEN_8086%26DEV_008A%26SUBSYS_53258086

When you log onto the site it says that !This driver is not designed for you computer!, but I downloaded and installed it anyways.

IT FIXED EVERYTHING!!!!!!

I hope this helps...

Lindsay
