My problems started happening maybe two weeks ago... When I'd start my computer, and logon, my Documents folder would open, even though I didn't ask it to. I did numerous Mcafee Virus and Malwarebytes scans. They would detect the infections, then I'd press the delete button and reboot.

First scan I did said it had 'Trojan.Agent.U' in different parts of the folder 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run'. Second scan gave me numerous 'Trojan.Downloader' and 'Spyware.Passwords.XGen'. When I'd reboot, RunDDL would pop up saying 'such and such a file couldn't be found or loaded'. Mcafee scans turned up nothing, whereas the latest MalwareBytes scan gave me alot of 'Rootkit.TDSS'. Before the last scan, google links WERE sending me to different urls, but once I did another scan, deleted the problems, then rebooted, google links seem to be fine. Now, I get popups for 'Ig0.exe' or 'Ig1.exe' etc asking for admin permission to start.

I don't know how viruses/worms work... As in, I don't get why the Spyware Passwords one isn't 'there' anymore, whereas this Rootkit, is... I deleted everything the scan found each time, but stuff still keeps coming back or not being deleted. I did scans in both Admin and non-admin, in safe mode and not in safe mode. Have reached a point where I've backed some of my data off and my husband is wanting to set it back to factory settings to get rid of this thing!

If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed.

If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:

  • Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
  • If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
  • In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all tools need to be started by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator!
  • If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
  • Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
  • Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
  • I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
    Because of this, you must reply within three days
    failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
  • Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
    Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.

Hello ST!

Thank You So Much for helping me with my virus/malware issue! Not been helped by anyone yet, so I guess we'll be in it together for the long haul :P

Before I run the tools you've requested (as I imagine they'll take a few hours to finish, if they're anything like a scan) I thought I'd better reply before the 3 days are up!

Update on what's been going on since my reply is:

I don't get any of the admin popups to allow the Ig0 or Ig1 exe files to run... not sure what has changed... Another change is, when I first open my browser (Firefox), and do a google search, the first link I click on (that being any of the google links), redirects me to a website that is not the website it is suppose to be. This only does this for the first time I click a google link - if I go 'back' in my browser, and click the same link, it goes to the right page.

I'm also still getting the two RunDDL popups everytime I log in (attached to post).

Attached File  Popups.jpg   41.66KB   1 downloads

Will run the Rootkit and OTL you instructed me to do, and reply back with the logs and an update after they've been run, in my next reply :)

Hi!

Thank You So Much for helping me with my virus/malware issue! Not been helped by anyone yet, so I guess we'll be in it together for the long haul

You're welcome!

Before I run the tools you've requested (as I imagine they'll take a few hours to finish, if they're anything like a scan) I thought I'd better reply before the 3 days are up!

If you need longer than the 3 days, just kindly let me know by posting in the thread, as long as I know you're still with me, we won't have an issue. :)

Those images you are posting are because of the malware.

We'll remove them later.

Please post the logs when you get a chance.

OTL by OldTimer - Version 3.2.24.1 log created on 06202011_182354

Now, I had to log in as the administrator in order to turn off Mcafee Security Center. I decided to just stay logged in as such when running Combofix (altho Combofix.exe is saved under my 'Tet' account on the desktop) Once it was done, I turned Mcafee back on, logged out of administrator, and logged back in to my account to come on here to post the log... Different RunDDL popup this time (asuceven.dll)

Hi!

Okay.

We still have some work to do.

ComboFix Script
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below.
  • They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Copy/paste the text inside the Codebox below into notepad:

Here's how to do that:
Click Start > Run type Notepad click OK.
This will open an empty notepad file:

Copy all the text inside of the code box - Press Ctrl+C (or right click on the highlighted section and choose 'copy')

KillAll::
File::
c:\users\Tet\AppData\Local\vn1uoy5tt.bat
c:\users\Tet\AppData\Local\Wkebuyuruwok.bin

Now paste the copied text into the open notepad - press CTRL+V (or right click and choose 'paste')

Save this file to your desktop, Save this as "CFScript"

Here's how to do that:

1.Click File;
2.Click Save As... Change the directory to your desktop;
3.Change the Save as type to "All Files";
4.Type in the file name: CFScript
5.Click Save ...

Posted Image
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. If ComboFix prompts you to update to the newest version, please allow it to do so. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

NEXT:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

I see that you have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed on your computer could you please do a scan using these settings:

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Select the Update tab
  • Click Check for Updates
  • After the update have been completed, Select the Scanner tab.
  • Select Perform quick scan, then click on Scan
  • Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan
  • When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results
  • Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected
  • After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest
Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Sorry ST :( I know I'm two days behind on replying to this... Husband's been off work so I've not got a chance to run thru the instructions, but I told him I gotta get it done tonight! So should be posting up stuff before the night is over (in the UK)!

Ugh, ok I think I might've done something wrong...
Logged in as 'Tet', I dragged the CFScript file on to Combofix, but when it started, it said "It is June 23rd 2011, Combofix has now expired. Continue with REDUCED FUNCTIONALITY?". I thought we wouldn't want reduced functionality, so decided to delete the original exe, come back to this thread, and download it again...

Only this time, I moved the logs of all the steps we've done so far, over to admin since I can only de-activate Mcafee thru the admin account. I downloaded combofix to admin's desktop (logged in as admin) dragged the CFScript file on top of it - it did what it needed to do, rebooted my computer, said it was creating a log, but when the notepad popped up, it said it couldn't find (I can't remember exactly) combofix log under Admin files... The notepad was empty. So I guessed it needed the original log which would be saved under my 'Tet' account.

So I moved all the logs back to my 'Tet' account (on the desktop, where they originally were) because whenever I clicked on any file in Admin account, a popup would come up saying "Error, this is set for deletion" or something. Now that I've moved the logs back to 'Tet', I can open them fine... now I'm worrying about Admin account stuff!

So I don't know what to do... do I download combofix again from the link you provided, onto my 'Tet' desktop and ONLY work from this login (not admin) and drag the CFScript on to it? What if it says "Combofix has expired" etc again? I hope I've not just messed up my Admin logon!

Yeah try to run it from the Tet account. It'd be easier if we could stick with running the tools in Admin account. Any way you can temporarily make the Tet account an Admin account?

Ok, just changed it to an admin account! Right, going to re-download combofix and run it again as you instructed with the CFScript... If I run into the same problem, I'll post on here within the hour :P
